The New Republic chose to revamp its online distribution of content by implementing OpenPublish, developed by Phase2 Technology. OpenPublish is a packaged distribution of the popular open source social publishing platform, Drupal, that has been tailored to meet the needs of online news publishers.

      In May 2008 Thomson Reuters and Phase2 Technology debuted feature-rich, highly intuitive Calais modules for integration with Drupal. Calais is Thomson Reuters’ Semantic Web Service that enables publishers to automatically metatag the people, places, facts and events in their content to increase its search accessibility on the Web.
