The FAIS database was developed by WFP as a contribution to a coordinated international response to food aid shortages. As a source of information for food aid actors, academics, the media and anyone interested in global efforts to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in a global perspective, the system provides reliable and comprehensive data on food aid flows throughout the world.
Developed by Phase2, this open data web application allows WFP’s FAIS program to gather, track, and display crucial information to users in a streamlined and highly navigable format. This dynamic system collects data from all users, represented by donor governments, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, recipient countries and WFP field offices, synthesizes and cross-checks results before disseminating. The information is then easily accessible in real-time via a user-friendly website.
Operating at the intersection of comprehensive data collection and effective distribution, Phase2 and the WFP have created the open data tools necessary to accurately monitor food aid allocations and improve the management, coordination and reporting of the world’s food aid initiatives.
