  • The Project for Excellence in Journalism ("PEJ") needed a mechanism that would allow their researchers to capture all of the statistical news data that they gathered each day.  They needed the ability to share data, collaborate on projects, and store data in a manner that would make it easily retrievable for additional analysis or conversion to charts and graphs for use in reports and the Journalism.org web site.

    What We Did

    Phase2 developed a web-accessible, Java application that allowed PEJ's researchers to perform three key functions:

    1. Collection: Enter and manage raw data;
    2. Analysis: Compile aggregate data summaries;
    3. Charting: Integrate with a third-party charting tool to generate images of graphs and tables from the aggregate summary data.

    Features

    • Management of variables, groups and code values
    • Data entry via single or grid mode
    • Calculation of data sets and frequencies
    • Chart definition interface
