Consider this challenge: Create a website that successfully conveys the professional interests of NBA players. After all, there’s much more to professional basketball in the United States than what we viewers see happen on the court.

The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) -- which represents all NBA players -- doesn’t just protect the financial interests of its members (most notably by negotiating the Collective Bargaining Agreement), but it also serves as a positive resource for players in other areas.

what we did:

So we jumped (with our comparatively amateur verticals) at the chance to help them more easily publish content for an audience of global media outlets while promoting interactions with the players themselves.

To accomplish this, we designed a dynamic rotator on the homepage that enables the user to swiftly pan through the site's priority features via a visual experience that’s rooted in stunning photography. Plus, we provided an infrastructure that gives the NBPA an opportunity to swap in media like embedded YouTube and Vimeo videos or hosted video, too.

Thanks to our flexible content types and taxonomies, the site now allows for "guest blogs" and "guest bloggers" to be set up on-the-fly. Furthermore, the SOLR search implementation fully indexes PDFs, which gives the NBPA an opportunity to publish even more content that’s relevant to hungry audiences. (Formerly, the NBPA's entire Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NBA was in unsearchable HTML pages).

“The NBPA has an important job supporting superstars on the court, and we were energized to be a part of their efforts,” said Joel Sackett, project manager.
