Tobby Hagler

Senior Developer

As one of our superb Senior Developers, Tobby Hagler builds platforms for our clients while tapping into his extensive experience with Drupal-based websites. His expertise spans the gamut of technical capabilities -- from interface development to application layer engineering and system architecture.

Tobby’s specialties tend to focus on scale, security, maintainability, extensibility, and a good overall user experience. Prior to joining us, he spent more than 10 years involved in the development of news and publishing sites at the Morris Publishing Group, where he most recently was the Manager of Web Development and, during his tenure, received numerous awards for his work.

The Internals of Passing Variables by Reference and Value

The concept of passing variables by reference or value isn't new to seasoned PHP developers; but often, newer developers aren't as familiar with this concept. Simply put: "by reference" means that you are passing the pointer (memory address) of a variable, while "by value" means you are copying the contents of a variable.
