Having spent an amazing few days in Austin for the Apps Sprint we came away with some even better news than expected. After a few joint development sessions with the great folks of [Pantheon] we are thrilled to announce that OpenPublic, OpenPublish and OpenAtrium are now available on the Pantheon platform via a one-click install from your Pantheon dashboard.

This weekend at DrupalCamp Atlanta, I had the pleasure of presenting with Jay Callicott from Mediacurrent on how to build an App for a Drupal distribution. Ok, so it wasn't really 8 minutes, and it wasn't exactly live - it was more like the cooking show kind of live -- but it did cover all the steps of building an App for a Drupal distribution, start to finish.

We're proud to announce today the arrival of the OpenPublic Community site - and invite you to visit, join, and be a part of this growing group of individuals, service providers, and public sector organizations who are growing the use of OpenPublic ever day.

Jeff:
When we created OpenPublic, we set out to build a completely open source platform that could help public sector organizations achieve Open Government using open source technology. What we learned in the process was the importance of re-use and consistency: solutions that are replicable, that prevent duplication of services, and that provide examples of best practices that could be repeatable. Our method of instilling consistency for OpenPublic users is a module concept called Apps.

The discussion has started. Whether you're wondering where apps fit in the Drupal ecosystem or just want to get started building one, you've got questions about apps. We're ready to get started, so let's get to the questions first.

TripIt's core feature is the ability to accept emails with travel/booking information and then use that information to automatically populate the user's itinerary. I'll provide an example: say you just booked an Amtrak ticket to New York. You can then forward your confirmation email from Amtrak to plans@tripit.com. In addition to their own technical innovations, TripIt increases its value by following the trend of integrating with third party apps.
