 Case Study: ASIS International
Client Overview
ASIS International, with more than 33,000 members, is the preeminent international organization for professionals responsible for security, including managers and directors of security. In addition, corporate executives and other management personnel, as well as consultants, architects, attorneys, and federal, state, and local law enforcement, are becoming involved with ASIS to better understand the constant changes in security issues and solutions.
Challenge
ASIS had begun to outgrow their website and web hosting provider. Specifically, the site was cumbersome to administer content updates, the online store was non-functional, and the hosting provider's technical limitations prevented ASIS from extending the technical capabilities of a site to include anything more than static content display. ASIS needed to evolve their website from just a marketing tool to more of a web communications solution for their membership.
Solution
Phase2 decided the best course of action was to update the structure and back-end technology of the website, migrate it to another hosting provider, and implement additional security protocols.
Phase2 took an active role in identifying, analyzing and conducting several key enhancement projects that have been conducted over the years as follows:
- Membership Data Integration - Prior to Phase2's involvement, the association had been manually producing Excel reports of membership database changes, which were emailed to the website support company and then manually loaded once per week. Phase2 automated this process by integrating AMS data with the website.
- E-commerce Implementation - After re-organizing the content structure of the website, Phase2 was tapped to implement an e-commerce store for the website to allow users to: purchase and/or renew memberships, apply for various programs and certifications, register for events, and purchase merchandise. The store catalog is maintainable by the ASIS staff via a web-based administration console. The association had been delayed in implemented the system because of a variety of complex issues for more than 2 years, but Phase2 implemented the system in less than 4 months. This e-commerce capability on the website has dramatically increased ASIS' online membership applications and product sales.
- E-Mail Subscription Management - Phase2 developed a module for the website to manage online newsletter subscriptions. This email system complies with CAN-SPAM legislation by allowing users to opt in and opt out as well as modify their preferences and information. The system is automated to regularly send tens of thousands of subscriptions to members and non-members alike.
